TURNING
BACK THE CLOCK
SomaLife gHP, a product for the new millennium, was conceived,
developed and tested by a world-renowned team of physicians and
biochemists who are in the emerging field of longevity medicine.
Classified as a nutritional supplement, SomaLife gHP is a critical
combination of amino acids, which, when taken orally, has the potential
to stimulate the pituitary gland to secrete growth hormone. Growth
hormone is recognized not only to be important in promoting growth
in children, but also in maintaining cellular integrity thereafter.
The rationale behind the development of SomaLife gHP was the well
documented association between aging and the decline in the release
of growth hormone, which occurs after growth is completed around
age eighteen. Recognition of this association led to the use of
growth hormone injections during the 1990s by the 'rich and famous'
who could afford this expensive exercise, and thereby enjoy the
evident anti-aging effects.
SomaLife gHP, on the other hand, offers the same longevity effects,
but with a relatively inexpensive oral product which is being enthusiastically
received by a rapidly expanding group of several thousand users.
Evidence of SomaLife gHP's acceptance would appear to be validated
by the continued use of the product (at an affordable cost), accompanied
by positive testimonials on its effectiveness. Because the amino
acids in SomaLife gHP are some of those normally used by the body
in cellular metabolism and protein production, the potential elevation
of growth hormone levels cannot exceed normal levels for an individual.
So consequently, significant negative effects have not been observed
or reported, and are not expected.
SomaLife gHP is manufactured from the highest quality, imported
amino acids under carefully controlled conditions. Each batch of
the product is subjected to high quality control testing before
it is released to the central distribution centre. SomaLife's sophisticated
computerized system, together with its well trained and motivated
staff, ensures timely fulfillment of product delivery following
registration of a user with SomaLife Health Products Inc.

Preface - With the beginning of the 21st century, a multitude
of exciting changes are occurring in concepts related to aging.
These changes have resulted in an exploding body of knowledge regarding
the aging process -- in both humans and animals. We are now at the
forefront of applying much of that recently acquired knowledge in
ways that will enable us to slow, and in some cases, stop or even
reverse some of the changes associated with aging.
This information booklet is designed to provide you with some of
the latest anti-aging science that is occurring in the world today.
It also demonstrates the potential, and how we may all benefit from
this huge body of scientific work. Applying this knowledge may well
be the promise of an 'ageless life' made better, brighter, and healthier.
One of the most exciting developments currently taking place is
the acquisition and application of knowledge about human growth
hormone (HGH) and its potential for literally turning back the clock
of life. Until recently, human growth hormone was available only
in expensive injection forms, so benefits from the restoration of
HGH levels were only available to those with the ability to pay
large fees. Now, natural substances called Secretagogues have become
available. Secretagogues can trigger the release of human growth
hormone from an individual's anterior pituitary gland. They actually
have the ability to restore HGH levels to the levels found in one's
youth. This booklet tracks some of the fascinating history behind
HGH research and its application. It also covers the current state
and availability of that research, and its potential for age reversal.
Enjoy the read!
Can We Really Turn Back The Clock? - For thousands of years
humans have dreamed about the ability to attain immortality. Although
immortality will probably remain a dream forever, we are much closer
to understanding what it is that causes cells (and therefore the
body) to age and how to slow or even stop that process
Over the centuries, the ongoing quest for the ultimate 'fountain
of youth' has fostered all kinds of substances, and claims for them,
as our society has restlessly sought the answer to that common question,
"Why do we age?" Over the past twenty years, a vast body of scientific
knowledge on the aging process has been accumulated. Recently, we
have been able to apply that knowledge and make the application
available at an affordable price to the population at large. Scientists
in the field of anti-aging feel that, in the relatively near future,
the average life expectancy of a healthy individual will be extended
to one hundred years or more. The first steps along that pathway
have already occurred with the potential to restore the levels of
human growth hormone (HGH) to those of our youth with simple, affordable,
and natural substances. Human growth hormone (HGH) in our current
state of knowledge is the 'ultimate anti-ager'. Exciting developments
in DNA and chromosome research are just around the corner.
Doctors' Secrets - The Road to Longevity, by Dr. Donald McLeod
(President of the Canadian Longevity and Anti-Aging Academy), and
Dr. Philip White (Vice President of the Canadian Longevity and Anti-Aging
Academy) is based on scientific papers published in the last twenty
to thirty years, and is accompanied by an extensive bibliography.
In their book they refer to HGH as the "time machine" of the human
body. Dr. Ronald Klatz (President of the American Academy of Anti-Aging
Medicine) has announced that the "ageless society has truly begun."
He is not alone in this statement
The advent of better nutrition, socio-economic conditions, better
treatment of disease, supplements, anti-oxidants, and other benefits
to human society, lead experts to believe that now the human body
can live well into the hundred and twenties or even hundred and
forties, and in a healthy condition, particularly with the help
of such discoveries as the effects of HGH.
Where Did It All Start? - Over the years, world-renowned
clinics such as Ana Aslan's in Romania, and the Clinique La Prairie
in Switzerland have attracted thousands of people, mostly the rich
and famous. They have sought treatments that include injections
of Gerovital H3 or fresh foetal lamb cells. Such treatments may
have had some merit in the past but none have passed the gold standard
of clinical trials for such interventions. This began to change
about twenty years ago.
In 1981 a study was published from the University of Rome by Drs.
Isidori, Lo Monico and Cappa, which demonstrated that a specific
combination of amino acids, when ingested orally, would cause an
increase in growth hormone levels in humans. This landmark study
demonstrating the ability to orally elevate HGH was of considerable
importance in clinical and diagnostic practice. It offered a more
practical and physiological approach to the previously known fact
that intravenous administration of some amino acids strongly stimulates
the secretion of growth hormone (HGH) by the anterior pituitary
gland.
During the 1980s a significant amount of work was done on human
growth hormone, particularly after it was found that it could be
synthesized by recombinant DNA technology. But it was still only
available in an injected and expensive form. Although costs have
come down somewhat, the fee per month for human growth hormone injections
can be as high as $2,800.00 US.
In 1990 Dr. Daniel Rudman, an endocrinologist from Madison, Wisconsin,
published a ground-breaking research paper in the world-renowned
New England Journal of Medicine. This study, which shook the medical
world, showed that twelve healthy men between 61 and 81, following
six months of human growth hormone therapy, had age reversal effects
on lean body mass and adipose tissue (fat) mass equivalent in magnitude
to changes attributable to ten to twenty years of aging. In addition,
Dr. Rudman noted that alterations in body composition caused by
growth hormone deficiency as we age, can be reversed by replacement
doses of hormone in other species as well as humans. Dr. Rudman
also noted "that these findings suggest that the atrophy of lean
body mass and its (the body's) component organs, and the enlargement
of the mass of adipose tissue (fat) that are characteristic of the
elderly, result at least in part from diminished secretion of growth
hormone. If so, the age-related changes in body composition should
be correctable in part by the administration of human growth hormone,
now readily available as a bio-synthetic product." Since that time,
large numbers of additional studies have supported the fact that
HGH can retard, as well as possibly reverse, at least some parameters
of the aging process.
The largest study to date of the effects of growth hormone on humans
has been that of Dr. Edmund Chein at the Palm Springs Life Extension
Institute in association with Dr. Leon Terry, a Neuroendocrinologist
from the Department of Neurology at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Interestingly, it was the Medical College of Wisconsin that produced
the landmark study by Dr. Rudman in 1990. The Palm Springs Life
Extension Institute follows a growth hormone protocol which restores
HGH levels in patients with low IGF-1 levels with low dose, high
frequency injections. Dr. Chein's study is ongoing and his patients
now number in the thousands.
The Palm Springs Life Extension Institute combines HGH injections
with other hormones that might be low, and has developed a program
that is claimed to have been 100% effective for all of its patients
with a protocol that continues until the patient has attained the
body composition of a younger person. The earlier collected data
of patients who have been treated at the Life Extension Institute
has been published. The assessment figures were obtained from randomly
selected, self-assessment questionnaires completed by two hundred
patients during the term of the therapy from 1994 to 1996
Looking And Feeling Younger - As noted earlier, human growth
hormone (HGH) is considered to be the 'ultimate anti-ager' and affects
almost every cell in the body. Its primary purpose is that of stimulating
growth, regeneration and cell repair. Once the growth period is
over, its primary function becomes that of cell regeneration and
repair. The immune system and other systems in the body appear to
benefit as well. Dr. Rudman's study demonstrated that bone density
in the lumbar spine can improve. It has also been shown that wrinkled
skin diminishes, while others have experienced improvement in presbyopia
(the difficulty in focussing due to hardening of the lenses as we
age). Some people have even reported restoration of hair colour
and growth. HGH appears to selectively reduce the fat around the
abdomen, hips, waist and thighs while at the same time increasing
muscle mass. In Dr. Rudman's study, after six months of usage, without
exercise, the subjects had an average 8% increase in lean muscle
mass and a 14.4% loss of fat.
75% of the individuals studied described an increase and improvement
in sexual function as well as increased frequency of sexual relations.
60% of male individuals studied experienced improvement in duration
of penile erection. Energy levels were improved in 84% of individuals
and muscle strength improved in 88%.
HGH not only has the potential to restore sexual function and sexuality
in older men but also acts as a mood elevator, restoring a youthful
sense of wellness and joie de vivre as well as improving sleep.
With its ability to affect cell regeneration and repair, healing
of injuries should improve. It appears more benefits are coming
to light as each new study is published.
Human Growth Hormone (HGH) - Human growth hormone or HGH
(medical name Somatotropin) is produced in the anterior pituitary
gland situated just below the hypothalamus, which is itself situated
just below the cerebral cortex of the brain. HGH is one of several
hormones secreted by the anterior pituitary gland and influences
the growth, regeneration and repair of cells, and therefore bones,
muscles and organs throughout the body during life. Production of
HGH peaks at adolescence when accelerated growth is occurring. If
growing children are deficient in human growth hormone, they remain
as pituitary dwarfs, whereas if they have too much, they exhibit
gigantism (acromegaly).
As is the case with many of our other hormones or their pre-cursors,
such as testosterone, oestrogen, progesterone, DHEA and melatonin,
HGH levels decline with age. Therapeutically, many of these hormones
can be replaced to offset some of the effects of aging such as menopausal
symptoms in women or erectile dysfunction in men. Replacement of
HGH in individuals has, as previously described and documented,
the potential to reverse many of the other effects of aging, and
the potential for HGH age reversal is now available in a simple,
relatively inexpensive form.
The human body, like every living entity, works on daily, or circadian,
as well as monthly and annual rhythms. Daily growth hormone secretion
diminishes with age with roughly half the levels at age forty that
we had when we were twenty, and about one-third of those youthful
levels at age sixty. In some sixty-year olds the levels are as low
as 25% of the HGH levels in a twenty-five year old. Symptoms of
aging include loss of muscle, increase in fat, decreased physical
mobility, decreased energy levels and as a result, diminished socialization,
diminished healing ability and decreasing life expectancy. Many
medical authorities now consider aging to be no longer just a physiological
process that is inevitable. Cells do have the ability to not age,
as has been demonstrated in the last few years by growing human
cells in tissue culture and then applying certain biochemical manipulations
to them.
It is now thought that the decline of growth hormone with age is
directly associated with many symptoms of aging including wrinkling,
grey hair, decreased energy, sexual function, and increased body
fat and that many of those symptoms are reversible.
Many of the symptoms of aging have been found in younger adults
who have growth hormone deficiency. Those individuals have a biological
age which exceeds their chronological age. The good news from all
of this research is that clinical evidence has demonstrated that
by replacing growth hormone we can dramatically reverse symptoms
attributable to aging, improving energy, reducing body fat, and
increasing muscle mass and strength, as well as a host of other
potential health benefits.
HGH, once released by the pituitary gland, travels in the circulation
and is taken up principally by the liver where it stimulates the
production of another hormone-like substance called Insulin-like
Growth Factor -1 (IGF-1). IGF-1 is then released into the circulation
where it attaches to cells in the body, and like insulin, triggers
the cell to produce certain responses which, with IGF-1, are those
of growth, regeneration and repair.
Levels of IGF-1 are monitored by the hypothalamus situated just
above the pituitary gland. When maximal HGH levels are attained
for any individual, these levels trigger the release of Somatostatin,
another brain chemical, which 'shuts the gate' in the pituitary
gland, preventing further release of HGH or Somatotropin, as it
is medically called. This feedback loop prevents excessive levels
of HGH in the body. Feedback loops are extremely efficient at preventing
our hormone levels from exceeding our optimal levels.
Secretagogues - The ground-breaking research by Isidori,
et al, at the University of Rome in 1981, and particularly that
of Dr. Daniel Rudman in 1990, has led to the development of dietary
supplements which have the ability to trigger HGH release from the
human anterior pituitary gland. As noted previously, until recently,
growth hormone therapy was very expensive and available only through
injections with the added difficulty of needing constant monitoring.
Prices ranged from $800 to $2,800 US per month, depending on the
source, the supply and levels of monitoring. These prices remain
out of range for most people and there are still dangers associated
with injecting human growth hormone, as there is the potential for
over dosage and related problems.
A Secretagogue is any product that is designed to promote the release
of a hormone. Recently, the ground breaking research at SomaLife
Health Products has been instrumental in the discovery of a Secretagogue
that works to release Human Growth Hormone. It is safe, reliable,
effective, and available at a price that is within the range of
most people in the target groups. There are two very large populations
who could significantly benefit from improved HGH levels: these
are the 'Baby Boomer' generation as well as anyone over 25 years.
Secretagogues in this instance are nutrients designed to encourage
the anterior pituitary gland to release its own growth hormone which
it continues to make in substantial quantities throughout life.
It has been demonstrated that as we get older we still produce HGH,
but our serum levels fall as a result of not releasing it. Secretagogues
reverse this process naturally and maintain the body's own natural
feedback loop, thus releasing HGH naturally and safely. Those Secretagogues
are natural substances, which have been well documented, as previously
noted in the 1981 University of Rome study, to increase growth hormone
levels. According to some researchers, these natural HGH releasers
may have the ability to more closely mimic the body's youthful HGH
secretion patterns than any other HGH therapies currently available.
Use of a Secretagogue, such as SomaLife gHP, has the potential for
restoring the body's HGH and IGF-1 levels to those of youth with
all the potential benefits. There are no other substances available,
short of injecting HGH, that appear to have as far-reaching an ability
to realize the potential for prevention and reversal of the aging
process.
Prior to Dr. Rudman's landmark study of 1990, growth hormone was
used for many decades as early as 1920, for those unfortunate children
who had pituitary hormone deficiency. Originally, prior to being
able to synthesize HGH
through DNA recombinant technology, it was available only
through cadavers (extracting it from the pituitary gland) which
was not always a safe or easy process, as well as being very expensive.
Observations of those children produced a wealth of knowledge regarding
the effects of HGH. This knowledge has been substantially built
upon over the last twenty years.
Dr. Rudman's conclusion, that "the overall deterioration of the
body that comes with growing old is not inevitable," has been borne
out with subsequent studies showing that HGH may reverse many parameters
of the biological aging process. Some of the beneficial effects
are:
- Increasing
energy
- Improving memory
- Improving sexual
function
- Improving vision
- Restoring muscle
mass
- Improving blood
pressure
- Reducing body
fat
- Elevating mood
and improving sleep
- Thickening
the skin
- Increasing
cardiac output and stamina
- Improving immune
function
- Restoring hair
colour
- Restoring lost
hair
- Improving cholesterol
profile
- Reducing wrinkles
- Restoring size
of liver, pancreas, heart and other organs that shrink with age.
Where Are We Now? - Since the publication of those landmark
studies, others have shown that if the body's growth hormone releasing
pattern is mimicked more closely, the effects of normalizing levels
are more profound and side effects are minimized. The natural secretagogue
SomaLife gHP appears to offer the best opportunity for doing this
in a natural and physiological way without interfering with the
body's feedback loop.
Dr. Klatz, President of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine
(A4M), noted in his book, Grow Young With HGH, that "some of the
best HGH releasers were the amino acids. These, in combination with
a dietary programme and exercise, can offer results which are very
significant." SomaLife gHP contains the right amino acids in the
correct proportions and specific quantities to contribute to optimal
HGH release, formulated in a proprietary and specific way to ensure
its maximum effect as a dietary supplement. SomaLife gHP is not
a drug!
Some amino acids can be made in the body from basic building blocks,
but others (nine out of the twenty needed for protein building)
are called essential amino acids, as the body is unable to manufacture
them and they have to be supplied in the food that we eat. Arginine
is an amino acid important in creatine synthesis. Claims for Arginine
include an increase in fat-burning and muscle-building, as well
as strengthening the thymus gland by increasing its weight and activity
and thereby boosting immunity. There are also claims in the literature
that Arginine alone will promote healing of burns and wounds as
well as enhance male fertility. Arginine, along with Lysine, was
one of the amino acids demonstrated in the 1981 study to cause HGH
release when combined in specific proportions. Other essential amino
acids contained in SomaLife gHP are Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine
and Valine. Lysine boosts the effectiveness of Arginine and is also
said to affect growth as well as having immune-boosting properties
of its own. Ornithine can be synthesized in the body and is now
also known to help stimulate HGH release. Glutamine can also be
synthesized in the body but may not always be made by the body in
sufficient quantities in times of stress. Dr. Klatz notes that the
gastrointestinal tract and the immune system "practically live on
it", and that without sufficiently available levels, the gastrointestinal
tract does not function as well, and nutrients are less well absorbed.
The other amino acids in SomaLife gHP contribute to the effects
of the supplement and the amino acids listed above. This type of
combination of amino acids is known as an
amino acid stack. The SomaLife gHP patent pending formula offers
the individual benefits of all of its amino acids and more. This
formula is our effective means of increasing the body's natural
production of HGH.
It is interesting to note that the body continues to make adequate
amounts of HGH even into old age, at the same time the production
of certain other hormones declines with age. Restoring HGH levels
to those of youth levels meant finding products or supplements which
would encourage the pituitary gland to release the HGH that it was
already making. SomaLife gHP has been shown to be able to do this:
restoring those youthful levels for most of us without overstimulating
our production or subjecting us to injections of the hormone itself.
SomaLife gHP works as the ultimate dietary
supplement by assisting the body's ability to secrete HGH naturally
in a manner which is safe and effective as well as being affordable.
Many individuals, when taking this dietary supplement, will notice
an immediate effect with some of those improvements noted earlier.
The scientific literature suggests that maximum effects occur over
a three-to-six-month time frame. It is suggested that when starting
SomaLife gHP, it should be taken for a minimum of three months,
preferably along with a dietary and exercise regime in order to
ensure maximal benefits.
SomaLife gHP has been formulated in capsule form
for maximum ease of use as well as availability and absorption.
Taken on an empty stomach, this is easily achieved by taking it
half an hour before or two hours after eating. This ensures that
it is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream to derive maximum benefit.
It is recommended that men take this product in a single serving
of six capsules at bedtime and women in two servings of three capsules
twice daily, on an empty stomach, to most accurately reflect the
natural release of HGH in both men and women. Men release most of
their HGH in a large spike about 90 minutes after falling asleep
while in a deep sleep. Where as women tend to release HGH in smaller
spikes over a 24-hour period.
In the August 16th, 2000 Journal of the "American Medical Association,"
Dr. Eve Van Cauter, one of the leading medical researchers in the
world on HGH from the University of Chicago, published a paper in
which she discussed the relationship between the declining HGH levels
in men to their poorer sleeping patterns. As men age they secrete
most of their growth hormone at night, as opposed to women who secrete
it throughout the day. This might explain the longer life spans
of women as shown by statistics.
Older individuals may need to start with just one capsule per day
and gradually increase dosage to a full serving by adding an extra
capsule every 5 to 7 days. SomaLife gHP is formulated from natural ingredients
and contains no animal-derived products in its proprietary formulation,
ensuring maximum benefits for all, without risk or side effects.
Much of this information will be new to individuals who are interested
in anti-aging, a field which is just on the
verge of exploding into the public domain. Almost daily, articles
appear in newspapers and magazines with regard to ways in which
we may be able to slow down or even reverse the aging process. On
December 14, 1998, a paper delivered at the American Society of
Cell Biology Convention in San Francisco by Professor Lee Sweeney,
the leader of a team of geneticists at the University of Pennsylvania
in Philadelphia, showed that age-related muscle loss in mice could
be reversed by inserting a fresh copy of a gene for IGF-1 into cells.
One day this may be used to treat muscle-wasting diseases as well
as preventing the weakness and shrinkage of muscles in old age.
This discovery was described by David Derbyshire in the British
newspaper, "The Daily Mail" on Tuesday, December 15, 1998, as having
the potential for "a magic bullet of youth."
Raising HGH levels increases IGF-1 levels. This can be achieved
by SomaLife gHP without the need for
expensive injection therapy, oral-HGH forms, or as shown most recently
at the University of Pennsylvania, gene manipulation which will
undoubtedly be expensive.
